Social plug-ins / integration through Shariff
Our websites use so-called social plug-ins (“plug-ins”) from social networks, in particular the “Share” and “Like” buttons from Facebook whose web presence is run by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. Facebook Ireland Limited, Hanover Reach, 5-7 Hanover Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland is responsible for the German website. The plug-ins usually bear a Facebook logo. In addition to Facebook, we also use plug-ins from “Twitter” (provider: Twitter, Inc., 1355 Market St, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103) and “LinkedIn” (provider: LinkedIn Corp., 2029 Stierlin Court Mountain View, CA 94043, USA).
For reasons of data privacy, we have deliberately decided against using direct plug-ins from social networks on our websites. Instead of this, we use what is known as the “Shariff” solution. With the aid of Shariff, you can decide whether and when data is to be sent to the operators of the various social networks. So when you visit our websites no data will be automatically sent to social networks like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
It is only when you actively click on the relevant button that your internet browser will establish a connection to the servers of the respective social network. So by clicking on a button such as “Pass this on”, “Share” or “Like”, you agree to your internet browser establishing a connection to the servers of the relevant social network and sending usage data to the operator of this social network.
We have no influence on the type of data collected by social networks nor on the amount of data. For details on the purpose and scope of the data collection and further processing and use of the data by the social networks in question as well as your rights in this respect and the configuration options to protect your privacy, please refer to the privacy notice of the social networks in question, for Facebook see http:// www.facebook.com/about/privacy/ and http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=186325668085084. Further information on the use of data by “Twitter” can be found at http://twitter.com/privacy, for LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Comment function (DISQUS)
We also use the DISQUS comment system provided by DISQUS, Inc., 301 Howard St, Floor 3 San Francisco, California- 94105, USA in our blog. The data privacy information of DISQUS can be found here. DISQUS allows you to register either through a separate DISQUS user account (“account”) or through user accounts you already have with Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. If you register with the DISQUS function on our websites using your social media accounts, these service providers will also collect and process information on your use of the DISQUS functions. Details about this can be found in the data protection provisions of the provider in question.
It is also possible to make comments as a guest, but in this case some functions will not be available.
DISQUS is an international platform. By registering you can comment on every website using DISQUS.
DISQUS sends the users’ email addresses and the IP address used to enter the comment to the radio broadcaster Deutschlandradio. We need this information solely in order to contact you in connection with your use of DISQUS, if we have questions regarding your user comment, for instance. There will naturally be no unauthorized disclosure to third parties.
